note: I didnt record the 2nd set. so only the first set is posted
This may have been the shortest first set I've ever seen – just 37
minutes. But it was a great 37 minutes full of rarities and fun
songs. Lonely Girl was really rocking for an opener, and Head Inside
is just a fun jam. Gumbo blew the doors off, though – this one was a
keeper just like Who Am I. Both of them have been a bit `dusty'
sitting on the shelf but man, they really lit it up tonight! There
was an unusual segue out of Who Am I into Let `Em In – yet another one
from the collection. One good thing about the short first set was a
very quick break before the second got started. It was a bit of a
strange start with the Emotional Rescue jam. This one stopped and
started a couple of times, and they basically played the whole thing
without lyrics (or at least it seemed that way). One of these days
they're gonna bust that one wide open, and it's gonna be awesome! Two
Person Chair was the roaring good time that we've come to expect, and
it jammed right into The Squirms II. Next came another new song
called Sunset Shuffle. It's a bluesy riff with some interesting
lyrics – I thought it would be something along the lines of Walking
Dead or something, but I like it. I'm looking forward to seeing this
one develop! Althea was after that, and this one was a smoker – Jason
was really on his game here, and it showed. The boys laid down some
huge funk for Cheap Sunglasses, and it was the beginning of a
monstrous run that nearly ended the set. It went into an incredible
Waft that featured some teases of Hard To Handle and Misty Mountain
Hop, then on into The Wrath, back into Waft, and finally into Fairy
Tale! This was one to remember, firing on all cylinders and elevating
the whole performance. The set came to a close with Take Me To The
River and everyone was having a good time. The Encore was super fun,
too – On The Run into Ya Mar featuring Kevin back out there with the
sax. Jimmy and Jason had a bit of a ((moment)) during the jam, and I
wish I'd had my camera handy. It was one of those Kodak moments that
just perfectly captured a look, a smile, and a group of guys really
enjoying what they do. Thanks for letting all of us enjoy it each week!
